Two SMNI Programs On Preventive Suspension

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has taken decisive action by issuing a preventive suspension order for two prominent SMNI programs, "Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa" and "Laban Kasama ang Bayan." The suspension, effective from December 18, 2023, comes in the wake of a thorough review and investigation into alleged violations related to the content aired on these shows.
The MTRCB received numerous complaints regarding an alleged death threat made by a guest during the October 10, 2023, episode of "Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa." Following a Preliminary Conference on November 8, 2023, SMNI had committed to pre-recording and reviewing episodes, having been sternly warned by the Board that similar incidents would be dealt with more severely.
On November 30, 2023, the Board received another complaint about an alleged death threat and profane language by a guest on the show. A Notice was subsequently issued for SMNI to appear before the Hearing and Adjudication Committee on December 7, 2023, with legal representation provided by Atty. Mark Tolentino.
Simultaneously, on November 30, 2023, the Board received a complaint about unverified news broadcasted on "Laban Kasama ang Bayan" regarding the purported expenditure of PhP1.8 billion in travel funds by House Speaker Martin Romualdez. A Notice was issued to SMNI, leading to a Hearing and Adjudication Committee meeting on December 7, 2023.
After careful consideration of recent events and complaints, the MTRCB determined that certain aspects of the aforementioned programs may have violated the established guidelines and standards set by Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations governing broadcasting content.
