The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson expressed deep concern over recent reports of coral destruction around Rozul Reef and Escoda Shoal.

Carlson took to social media to share her thoughts on the matter and to pledge the U.S. government's commitment to preserving the Philippines' natural resources.

In a post on her official X (Formerly Twitter) account, Ambassador Carlson acknowledged the troubling reports by the Philippine Coast Guard (@CoastGuardPH) and the Western Command Armed Forces of the Philippines (@TeamWESCOM) regarding habitat damage in these crucial marine areas. She highlighted the devastating impact of such destruction, not only on local ecosystems but also on the lives and livelihoods of the people who depend on these resources.

"Troubling @CoastGuardPH and @TeamWESCOM reports on coral destruction around Rozul Reef and Escoda Shoal. Habitat damage harms ecosystems and negatively affects lives and livelihoods. We are working with our #FriendsPartnersAllies to protect 馃嚨馃嚟 natural resources," Ambassador Carlson tweeted.

The United States has been a long-standing partner of the Philippines in various areas of mutual interest, including environmental protection and sustainable development. Ambassador Carlson's statement reaffirms the commitment of the U.S. government to collaborate with its Filipino counterparts and international allies to address the critical issue of coral reef preservation.

The destruction of coral reefs not only impacts marine biodiversity but also leaves coastal communities vulnerable to natural disasters such as typhoons and rising sea levels. The joint efforts of the U.S. and the Philippines, along with their allies, are expected to lead to the implementation of conservation initiatives aimed at safeguarding these vital marine ecosystems.
