On December 5, at approximately 4:30 PM, Ceres bus number 6289 met with a tragic accident at KM 174, Igbucay, Hamtic, Antique. The bus, en route from Iloilo to Culasi, accidentally plunged off a ravine, resulting in serious injuries and casualties among the 24 passengers, driver, conductor, and line inspector on board.

Upon confirmation of the incident, VTI's Branch, Admin, and Maintenance Managers, Operations Personnel, Liaison Officers, and nurses from both the West and East branches were swiftly dispatched to the accident site to provide immediate assistance to the victims.

VTI promptly reported the incident to the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), expressing full cooperation with any investigations.

In collaboration with LTFRB Region 6, VTI voluntarily suspends operations of the 12 remaining units under the franchise associated with Case No. 11-VI-021-AK, pending the outcome of investigations related to the bus involved in the incident.

VTI said it is committed to supporting the affected passengers and their families by providing financial assistance, covering medical and burial expenses. The management has assigned personnel to remain on standby at hospitals for ongoing updates and assistance.

VTI said that comprehensive measures are being taken to ensure all buses are road-worthy and well-maintained. The incident has prompted a thorough review of safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
