Vanuatu records Magnitude 6.8 Quake

In a recent bulletin released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the agency confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Vanuatu earlier today.

According to the bulletin, the earthquake occurred at 02:05:00 AM on March 3, 2023, with a location of 15.5°S, 166.3°E in Vanuatu. The earthquake had a depth of 33 kilometers.

Despite the strong magnitude of the earthquake, PHIVOLCS evaluated the situation and found no destructive tsunami threat based on available data. The agency stresses that the bulletin is for information purposes only, and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines.
