Wearing Facemasks Become Mandatory again in Some Cities
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has classified the Albay Province under Alert Level 1 for COVID-19 in its latest resolution, which was issued last April 14, 2023. To ensure the safety of its residents, the Legazpi City COVID-19 Task Force has advised the strict implementation of minimum public health standards, such as wearing face masks, observing physical distancing, and practicing frequent hand hygiene.
The City Government of Legazpi has also mandated the wearing of face masks for all its employees, while the Legazpi City Police Station, the Legazpi City Fire Station, the Public Safety Office, all barangays concerned, and other stakeholders shall monitor the observance of these protocols.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City has also been placed under COVID Alert Status #1, and Mayor Albee Benitez has urged all Bacolodnons to follow the minimum health protocols indicated in Executive Order No. 33, including the mandatory usage of face masks in all public transportation.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette B. Aquino has also announced that the wearing of face masks will remain mandatory inside trains of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Metro Rail Transit (MRT), and Philippine National Railways (PNR). According to Asec. Aquino, the risk of COVID-19 transmission remains present in enclosed spaces such as trains, as confirmed by medical professionals in the railways sector.
While the government continues its vaccination efforts, Asec. Aquino urged the riding public to remain vigilant and protect their fellow commuters by wearing masks. She also encouraged the public to get their second booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, which can significantly increase immunity against the virus.
The Department of Health (DOH) has also emphasized the importance of wearing face masks, especially in Metro Manila, where news cases of coronavirus continue to rise. DOH spokesperson Maria Vergeire has encouraged everyone to wear masks, even if the government does not impose a masking mandate, as it is a crucial preventive measure against COVID-19.
