In response to a surge in respiratory diseases in China, the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially requested comprehensive information from Chinese authorities.

The increase is attributed to lifted COVID-19 restrictions and the circulation of pathogens, including influenza, mycoplasma pneumoniae, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2.

While Chinese authorities stress the importance of enhanced disease surveillance, media reports on November 21 highlight clusters of undiagnosed pneumonia in children, prompting WHO's call for additional data.

As of mid-October, northern China has seen a notable rise in influenza-like illnesses.

The Department of Health's Epidemiology Bureau is closely monitoring the situation locally and has reached out to China's National Focal Point for more information.

Current trends show a slower uptrend in influenza-like illness cases. WHO recommends precautionary measures, including vaccination, maintaining distance from the ill, testing when necessary, mask-wearing, good ventilation, and regular hand washing for the people in China.
