TV host Willie Revillame has said he may consider running for a seat in the Senate in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. The announcement was made during a prayer rally held in Davao City on Sunday, Jan. 28, where Revillame expressed his commitment to becoming a dedicated public servant for the Filipino people.
Revillame shared that he had been approached by then President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go in March two years ago to join their party's senatorial lineup. However, due to contractual obligations with his show "Wowowin," he had to decline the offer at that time.
During the prayer rally, Revillame recounted the conversation with the President and Senator Go, stating, “I told them, 'Dear President, I have an existing contract, and I'm not ready yet. When I am ready, I will consider.' They said, 'Follow your heart. Follow your mind. We won't force you.'"
Reflecting on the honor of being considered for a senatorial position, Revillame said, “I prayed and couldn't sleep, tears flowed because it's an honor for someone like me, a TV host, to be offered by the President of the Philippines to serve the nation."
He continued, "They told me, 'People love you, we both love our fellow countrymen, and we need you in the Senate.' When you told me that, you said I was needed, and I didn't want to disappoint you, so I declined. You said to me, 'Willie, I salute you for following your heart.'"
Revillame emphasized the importance of public service over politics, stating, "Those serving the nation shouldn't be called politicians; they should be called public servants. Because when mixed with politics, there's conflict, there's ego. A nation without discord, without choosing sides, united, loving each other—that's what we want."
Expressing his readiness to serve, Revillame declared, "I am ready to do good, ready to serve, not just the nation but also our fellow countrymen in need. Thank you, dear President, for your trust. Whatever you command from my heart, I will follow."
He concluded with a commitment to positivity, saying, "I will never harbor ill thoughts towards our countrymen. I will do only good, even if I'm not adept in laws. But my heart knows how to love, listen, and help every Filipino."
