Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri addressed the letter he received from Speaker Martin Romualdez regarding legislative efforts to amend the 1987 Constitution. Zubiri confirmed that he has received and read the letter and assured that the Senate's response will be provided on Monday.

Regarding Speaker Romualdez's suggestion of an alternative people's initiative originating from the Senate, Zubiri clarified that there have been no discussions on this matter. The Senate maintains the stance that any legitimate people's initiative must genuinely be led by the people. In its current form, the Senate deems the ongoing people's initiative, including the method of signature collection, as flawed and unconstitutional.

Expressing concern about the potential constitutional crisis, Zubiri stated that the Senate had warned about this scenario and attempted to avoid it. However, he acknowledged that it appears to be gradually unfolding. The Senate President hopes that the impending crisis can be averted soon.

Zubiri emphasized the Senate's commitment to carefully studying available options to uphold the checks and balances outlined in the Constitution through a bicameral legislature. The statement concludes with a reassurance that the Senate remains vigilant for the country and its people, demonstrating a dedication to preserving the integrity of the constitutional framework.
