In a sweeping move aimed at addressing inaccuracies in crime reporting and enhancing public safety, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has seen significant leadership changes. Effective Monday, July 8, DCPO Director, along with 19 police station commanders, were relieved of their duties by the directive of PRO-11 Regional Director PBGen. Nicolas Torre III.

This decision follows a disturbing revelation that from January to May 2024, there were 22 reported homicide cases and 41 rape cases in Davao City. These figures starkly contrasted with the previously reported crime statistics, raising serious concerns about the reliability of crime data being reported.

Gen. Torre highlighted the critical importance of accurate crime reporting in understanding and addressing the city's peace and order situation.

The removal of the police station commanders is part of a broader effort to rebuild trust and ensure accountability within the police force. The reshuffling aims to instill a culture of integrity and diligence in crime reporting, which is essential for effective law enforcement and community safety.

The DCPO is now tasked with appointing new leadership committed to transparency and improving the city's security environment. The changes signal a firm stance against any form of misconduct or negligence within the ranks, emphasizing that the protection and service to the community remain paramount.
