20 Barangays Affected In Kanlaon Volcano Unrest

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has issued a comprehensive bulletin detailing the impacts of the recent volcanic activity of Mt. Kanlaon. As of the latest report dated June 5, 2024, no casualties have been reported, with authorities currently validating seven potential injuries.

There are no reported missing individuals. However, a significant number of communities have been affected, with 20 barangays, 605 families, and 2,088 individuals feeling the repercussions of the volcanic unrest.

Inside designated evacuation centers, 11 facilities are operational, sheltering 419 families comprising 1,407 individuals. Preemptive evacuation measures have not been implemented yet. Outside of designated centers, 45 families with 177 persons have sought refuge.

The bulletin also notes that essential services have not been significantly interrupted, with zero reported disruptions in communication, power, or water supply. Furthermore, bridges and roads remain passable, ensuring the continued flow of emergency response efforts. However, domestic and international flights have been grounded, leaving 1,501 passengers stranded. Seaports, however, remain operational.

Regarding damages, specific data are currently unavailable, but interventions have been swiftly implemented.

Two municipalities, Canlaon and La Castellana, have declared a state of calamity. Relief efforts are underway, with 189,986 family food packs stocked in disaster response centers, and financial assistance totaling P1,346,325.85 has been provided.

Health services are on high alert, with a white alert status in hospitals near Mt. Kanlaon. Logistics operations, including search, rescue, and retrieval efforts, are also in progress to ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities.
