The buzz of the 2025 midterm elections is already making waves. With the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) in full swing until October 8, some well-known names have officially thrown their hats into the political ring. Let’s take a look at who’s stepping up for this high-stakes race:

First to File: AGRI Party-list Rep. Wilbert Lee

Wilbert Lee was the early bird this election season. He became the first senatorial aspirant to submit his COC on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at the Manila Hotel Tent City. Lee’s move marks the beginning of what’s expected to be a heated and competitive senatorial battle.

Bulacan’s political powerhouse, Governor Daniel Fernando and Vice Governor Alex Castro, have filed their COCs to seek re-election. Known for their dynamic leadership, they’re poised to continue their tandem for the province.

Cebu’s Prominent Representatives

In Cebu, incumbent Congressman Pablo John “PJ” Garcia and 4th District Rep. Salvador Cariaga have also filed their COCs, signaling their intentions to continue representing the province in the House of Representatives.

She’s authored and co-authored numerous bills and resolutions, including the Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers and the Expanded Centenarians Act.

The Villafuertes: A Political Powerhouse in CamSur

The Villafuerte family made a statement by filing their COCs simultaneously in Pili town, Camarines Sur. Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte and his son, incumbent Governor Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte, will be switching posts, while 5th District Rep. Miguel Luis Villafuerte is seeking a second term. Their continued presence solidifies the family’s grip on the province’s political landscape.

Matthew Joseph Manotoc and Cecilia Araneta-Marcos: Team Re-Election in Ilocos Norte

In Ilocos Norte, the powerful Manotoc-Marcos tandem is also eyeing re-election. Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc and his aunt, Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, filed their COCs with members of their provincial board at the newly opened Commission on Elections office in the Centennial Arena.

Celebrity Candidacies: Enzo Pineda and More

Actor Enzo Pineda, accompanied by his mom and girlfriend Michelle Vito, filed his COC for councilor in Quezon City’s 5th District. It’s his first foray into public service, and he expressed his enthusiasm to make a difference in his district.
