Questions surrounding the identity of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo deepened as Sen. Risa Hontiveros spearheaded the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality's inquiry into Guo’s alleged connections with Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

During the hearing, Hontiveros revealed a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) document concerning an Alice Leal Guo, whose birthdate and birthplace align with those of the embattled mayor. The clearance, dated just before Mayor Guo applied for a birth certificate as a teenager, raises suspicions of possible identity theft.

“Is it a coincidence that there are two Alice Leal Guos? Or is it a case of stolen identity?” Hontiveros queried, emphasizing the need for answers. Mayor Guo, citing health concerns due to the allegations, was absent from the proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) issued a stern call for the permanent ban of POGOs, highlighting the grave security risks posed by illegal operations. While acknowledging legitimate POGOs that comply with regulations and provide employment, the VFP condemned criminal syndicates masquerading as POGOs, involved in activities such as bribery, human trafficking, and possible espionage.

The VFP, representing over 93,000 members, commended the defense and security sectors for uncovering these criminal enterprises and pledged support to the government's anti-corruption efforts. Their clarion call urges Filipinos to unite in eliminating these threats to national security and societal values.

As the Senate intensifies its scrutiny on Mayor Guo's identity and alleged POGO connections, the urgency to address illegal gaming operators resonates with heightened concern from veterans and lawmakers alike.
