Tragedy struck the surfing community this weekend as Tamayo Perry, a notable figure in both the film industry and professional surfing, passed away following a suspected shark attack off the coast of Malaekahana, Oʻahu.

Perry, who was known for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and his prowess in big-wave surfing, was reportedly attacked while surfing on Saturday.

The incident has left the community in mourning, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from friends, family, and colleagues. Perry, an eight-year veteran lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Safety, was celebrated not only for his acting and surfing achievements but also for his dedication to saving lives and his deep commitment to his community.

"That smile. Contagious. The memories. Forever. All the lives saved and touched. The husband, son, friend, and brother to so many," shared Honolulu Ocean Safety in a poignant Instagram post. "Mahalo for all you did for so many. Our hearts are crushed. As the sun rose this morning, Tamayo, we know you are surfing the most beautiful sets and will always be looking over us. All who knew you, knew how strong your faith was and you believed God has a plan for everyone. God bless our brother. Rest in peace. Tamayo Perry - End of Heroic Service: June 23, 2024."

Perry's influence extended beyond the waves and the screen; he was a beloved figure whose legacy of bravery, kindness, and faith left a lasting impact. Lifeguards and park staff fondly remember his infectious smile and the countless lives he touched through his work and personal connections.
