National Security Adviser Secretary Eduardo Año has set the record straight about the ongoing operations in Ayungin Shoal. Despite rumors swirling about heavy U.S. involvement, Año emphasized that these efforts are entirely carried out by Filipinos.

“It is purely a Philippine forces operation,” Año said, highlighting the leadership of the Western Command (WESCOM) and the active participation of the Philippine Coast Guard. “The RORE in Ayungin is always a pure Filipino operation,” he added, referring to the resupply missions (Rotation and Resupply, or RORE) in the contested area.

While the United States plays a supportive role, Año assured that their assistance is limited to providing logistics and other forms of backing—not boots on the ground or direct engagement. The clarification underscores the Philippines’ commitment to asserting its sovereignty and maintaining control over its operations in the West Philippine Sea.

The statement comes as the Ayungin Shoal remains a focal point in the country’s maritime dispute with China, with every resupply mission drawing international attention. For now, Año’s message is loud and clear: when it comes to Ayungin, it’s the Filipino forces steering the ship.
