In exciting news for commuters in Metro Manila and Antipolo City, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is gearing up to launch the country's first-ever cable car system, the Antipolo Cable Car Project, by 2028. This ambitious initiative aims to link the Taytay station of MRT-4 directly to Antipolo City, providing a much-needed boost to transportation options in the bustling region.

During the Build Better More Infrastructure forum held in New Clark City, DOTr Undersecretary for Planning and Project Development, Timothy John Batan, expressed optimism about the project's potential impact. "Antipolo is densely populated with a vibrant economy, making it an ideal candidate for improved connectivity with MRT-4," Batan said.

Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the project recently completed its pre-feasibility study, affirming its viability. The next crucial step involves a detailed feasibility study, also financed by the ADB, slated to commence in 2025. This study will meticulously assess the project's costs and passenger capacity, paving the way for the bidding process expected in 2026.

"This will be our maiden venture into cable car systems, and we estimate construction to span approximately two years," Batan elaborated. "With a target contract award in 2026, we're optimistic about achieving operational readiness by 2028."

The Antipolo Cable Car Project represents a bold stride towards enhancing urban mobility and connectivity, promising a more efficient and scenic commute for residents and visitors alike. As developments unfold, anticipation mounts for this innovative addition to Metro Manila's transportation landscape.
