Undersecretary Michael Poa has announced his resignation from his role as spokesperson for the Department of Education (DepEd). And he's not alone—four other high-ranking officials are also stepping down.

Joining Usec. Poa in this exodus are Undersecretary for Administration Nolasco Mempin, Assistant Secretary Sunshine Fajarda, Assistant Secretary for Procurement Reynold Munsayac, and Assistant Secretary for Administration Noel Baluyan. Their resignations are set to take effect on July 19, 2024.

These departures signal a significant shift within DepEd’s leadership team. Usec. Poa explained that their collective decision to resign aims to ensure a smooth transition for the department’s leadership.

With these key positions now vacant, there will undoubtedly be a lot of conversations and decisions about who will step in and what the future holds for DepEd. This shake-up is set to influence the direction of one of the Philippines' most important government agencies.
