In a joint operation between the Bureau of Customs – Manila International Container Port (BOC-MICP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a shipment from Thailand, initially declared as household items, shoes, and motor parts, was intercepted due to suspicion of containing illegal drugs.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) – MICP, under the approval of MICP District Collector, initiated verification procedures leading to the interception.

On May 6, 2024, a comprehensive scanning conducted by DEA-MICP, witnessed by various agencies including CIIS, revealed concealed items within boxes of electric fans and water heaters.

Subsequent physical examination and PDEA field testing confirmed the presence of 8.294 kilos of shabu, valued at PhP56.399 million, concealed within the shipment.

The apprehended goods are now subject to seizure and forfeiture proceedings for violation of customs and dangerous drugs laws.

Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio commended the collective efforts of BOC-MICP, PDEA, and other agencies involved, emphasizing their dedication to protecting Filipino society from the scourge of illegal drugs.
