In a significant bust at the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark, authorities have seized a substantial quantity of high-grade marijuana, commonly known as Kush, along with assorted cannabis-infused disposable vapes. The seizure, valued at approximately Php 3,979,929, underscores the ongoing battle against illicit drug trafficking.

The contraband was cunningly concealed within a parcel labeled as "Accessory," originating from California, USA. The vigilant efforts of the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) personnel, who detected an anomaly in the parcel's x-ray image, led to the initiation of further investigation. Subsequent K9 sniffing confirmed suspicions of prohibited substances, prompting an immediate physical examination.

Upon inspection, authorities uncovered 2,132 grams of dried leaves and fruiting tops suspected to be high-grade marijuana, alongside 156 pieces of assorted disposable vape cartridges infused with cannabis. Samples were promptly collected and handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for chemical analysis, confirming the presence of marijuana, classified as a dangerous drug under R.A. 9165.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was swiftly issued against the illicit shipment, citing violations of various sections of R.A. No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) in connection with R.A. No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), as amended.

District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria lauded the collaborative efforts of the Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force (CAIDTF), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), X-ray Inspection Project (XIP), Customs Examiner, and PDEA Region III. Their seamless cooperation played a pivotal role in intercepting the illegal narcotics and preventing their entry into the country.

Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio emphasized the BOC's unwavering commitment to combatting drug smuggling, aligning with Secretary of Finance Ralph G. Recto's initiatives to safeguard national economic interests and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to protect the nation from the perils of illegal drugs.

"This recent seizure underscores our dedicated efforts to thwart drug trafficking and uphold community safety," Commissioner Rubio said. "We will continue to intensify our operations and bolster our capabilities to intercept any attempts to smuggle illegal substances into our country."
