Bong Go Speaks Out: PDEA Sets The Record Straight On Drug Link Allegations

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has come forward to clear Senator Christopher "Bong" Go of any alleged connection to illegal drugs. This comes after a controversial presentation at a House hearing sparked rumors linking him to drug activities and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

In a statement released on December 2, PDEA clarified that the matrix shown during the November 27 House Quad Committee hearing did not accuse Go of any wrongdoing. “Nowhere in the said matrix indicated that the Honorable Senator is involved in illegal activities,” PDEA stressed, reiterating its commitment to staying apolitical and focused on its mission against illegal drugs.

Go Fights Back

Unsurprisingly, the allegations didn’t sit well with Go, who slammed them as baseless and politically motivated. “Walang katotohanan na papayag kami sa iligal na droga. Galit nga kami sa iligal na droga,” he said firmly, pointing out his consistent stand against drug lords.

Go also addressed photos of him circulating with alleged drug personalities, explaining that as a public figure, he interacts with countless people daily. “Kahit sino po nagpapa-picture sa akin. Pero hindi po ibig sabihin nito na may koneksyon ako sa kanila,” he said, urging critics not to jump to conclusions.

Lawmakers Call for Caution

During the hearing, Representatives Bienvenido Abante and Ace Barbers echoed Go’s sentiment, warning agencies to avoid presenting unverified information. “Baseless accusations can ruin lives,” Barbers said, calling for careful handling of sensitive data.

Election Politics?

Go believes the timing of these allegations is no coincidence, citing the election season as a driving factor behind the smear campaign. “Gusto nilang sirain kami para sila ang makinabang,” he said, but added he won’t let the accusations distract him from serving the Filipino people.

Actions Speak Louder

Despite the controversy, Go remains focused on his public service. As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, he continues to push for stronger anti-drug measures, including his proposed Senate Bill No. 428 to build more rehabilitation centers.

His message to critics? “Patuloy akong magseserbisyo sa kapwa Pilipino—mahal n’yo man ako o hindi.”
