In the wake of typhoons Kristine, Leon, Nika, Ofel, and Pepito battering the country, Senator Bong Go is calling for a more transparent and thorough review of the government’s disaster fund usage. As Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committees on National Defense and Finance, Go emphasized the need for accountability to ensure every peso is spent helping affected communities recover.

“Disaster funds are meant for those impacted by calamities and should not be used for anything else. It’s crucial to have clear and proper utilization of these funds so that affected communities can rebuild faster,” Go said.

He underscored how millions of Filipinos have been displaced, with some losing their lives due to these successive storms. For this reason, Go urged fellow lawmakers and government agencies to prioritize disaster preparedness and response efforts.

“The public’s trust is vital. They need to know that the government is using their money the right way, especially during times of crisis,” he added.

Go’s appeal aims to strengthen the public’s confidence in the government while ensuring swift and efficient recovery for disaster-hit areas. With more typhoons likely to come, he stressed the importance of being ready and responsive at all times.
