Bong Go To PhilHealth: From 'Boy Promise' To 'Boy Tupad' - Deliver On Expanded Health Benefits!

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go isn’t holding back when it comes to making sure PhilHealth delivers on its promises. During a Senate Health Committee hearing on November 25, Go urged PhilHealth President Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. to fulfill the agency's commitments under the Universal Health Care Act.

“Mula ‘Boy Promise,’ maging ‘Boy Tupad’ ka,” Go quipped, adding a bit of humor to his serious reminder.

The senator emphasized the need to expand benefit packages, especially for underserved Filipinos. “Sa probinsya, sinulid ang ginagamit pantanggal ng ngipin,” he shared, underscoring the urgency of proper dental care access.

What PhilHealth Promised

PhilHealth committed to rolling out several new benefit packages by the end of 2024, including:

• Dental services: Consultations, oral prophylaxis, and dentures.

• Mental health support: Psychosocial interventions and consultations.

• Assistive devices: Wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers.

• Emergency outpatient services.

• Expanded diagnostic tests: CT scans, MRIs, and angiograms.

• Optometric services: Early detection of refractive errors to prevent blindness.

Go’s Push for Action

Go highlighted that prevention is key, especially for vulnerable populations like children. He pointed out that untreated vision issues in schools could lead to severe conditions like cataracts.

“Ang PhilHealth may malaking pondo. Gamitin ito para sa mga kababayan nating nangangailangan,” he stressed.

He also shared a heartbreaking story from Ozamiz City where a patient removed their oxygen due to unpaid hospital bills. “Ang sakit ng dibdib ko nung narinig ko ‘yun,” Go said, urging PhilHealth to ensure no Filipino is denied care because of financial constraints.

What’s Next?

PhilHealth’s Ledesma assured senators of the agency’s progress and reaffirmed its dedication to delivering equitable healthcare. But Go made it clear: promises aren’t enough. Tangible results are what matter.

“PhilHealth is for health,” he reminded. “Tulungan natin ang ating mga kababayang mahirap.”

The message is clear: PhilHealth must step up and ensure every Filipino has access to the care they deserve—no excuses, just action.
