Bong Go Urges Filipinos To Stay Alert As Dengue Cases Surge In Quezon City

The rising number of dengue cases in Quezon City is setting off alarm bells, and Senator Christopher "Bong" Go is calling on everyone to stay vigilant and take action. With 1,708 cases recorded from January 1 to February 13—and 10 reported deaths—the situation is serious, especially for children and teenagers who are the most vulnerable.

"Dengue is a serious health threat, lalo na sa ating mga kabataan. Kailangan nating magdoble ingat at siguraduhin na sumusunod tayo sa tamang hakbang para maiwasan ang sakit na ito," Go emphasized, urging Filipinos to take preventive measures.

Why You Should Be Concerned

Dengue is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, and it can turn deadly if not treated properly. Early symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rashes. If left unchecked, it can lead to severe bleeding, organ failure, or even death.

Go reminded everyone to seek medical attention immediately if they experience persistent fever, body pain, or vomiting. He also urged local government units to ramp up information campaigns and ensure that hospitals are ready to handle dengue cases.

What You Can Do to Stay Safe

Go encouraged everyone to follow the Department of Health’s 4S strategy:

1. Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites—get rid of stagnant water in containers, tires, and flower pots.

2. Self-protection—use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved clothing.

3. Seek early consultation—don’t ignore symptoms and visit a doctor right away.

4. Support fogging and spraying in high-risk areas where dengue cases are rising.

He also stressed the importance of regular cleanup drives to keep communities mosquito-free.

Bong Go’s Push for Stronger Health Measures

Beyond immediate prevention, Go is advocating for long-term solutions. He is pushing for Senate Bill No. 195, which aims to establish the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to improve disease surveillance and prevention in the country. He is also backing the creation of the Virology Science and Technology Institute, which will enhance the country’s ability to study and fight infectious diseases.

Filipinos needing medical assistance can also turn to the 167 Malasakit Centers nationwide, a program spearheaded by Go to help indigent patients with hospital expenses. Additionally, he has been advocating for more Super Health Centers to bring essential medical services closer to communities.

Stay Vigilant, Stay Safe

"Dengue is preventable, kaya sama-sama tayong kumilos para mapanatili ang kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga pamilya," Go urged. "Let’s work together to stop the spread and protect our communities."

With the right precautions and collective action, Filipinos can fight back against dengue. Stay informed, stay protected, and let’s keep our neighborhoods safe.
