Brace Yourselves: Severe Tropical Storm Kristine Closes In On Isabela

As of 8:00 PM today, Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (#KristinePH) continues to gain strength, inching closer to Isabela's coastal waters. With maximum sustained winds reaching 95 km/h and gusts up to 115 km/h, Kristine is now situated 150 km east of Echague, Isabela. The storm is heading northwest at 15 km/h and poses significant risks, especially in Luzon.

What to Expect from Kristine

Kristine is currently packing a punch with strong winds extending up to 730 km from its center. If you're in the northern and central regions of Luzon, especially in Isabela, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and the central areas of Abra and Aurora, you’re under **Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3**, meaning storm-force winds are on the way. Winds in these areas could range from 89 to 117 km/h, posing a moderate to significant threat to life and property. Prepare for possible power outages and flying debris, and make sure to secure loose items around your property.

If you're in places like Metro Manila, Cavite, and Laguna, you're under **Signal No. 2**, which means gale-force winds could reach up to 88 km/h. For those in these regions, it's time to double-check your emergency kits and make sure you’re ready to take shelter if needed.

Heavy Rain and Storm Surge Alerts

Kristine is not just about the winds—it’s bringing heavy rain, too. Expect intense rainfall in areas under wind signals, potentially causing landslides and flash floods. Be extra careful if you’re in low-lying zones or near rivers.

Coastal areas in northern Luzon should also prepare for a storm surge up to 2 meters high in the next 48 hours. If you’re along the coast in places like Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, or La Union, stay alert for updates and heed local evacuation orders if issued.

Kristine's Path and What’s Next

The storm is expected to make landfall in Isabela either late tonight or early tomorrow, crossing Northern Luzon and emerging over the West Philippine Sea by tomorrow afternoon. While Kristine may weaken as it moves over land, it could regain strength once back over the sea. By Friday, it’s likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Stay Safe and Stay Informed

Whether you’re in Luzon, Visayas, or even some parts of Mindanao, Kristine's effects will be felt, with winds reaching as far as Southern Visayas and parts of Mindanao due to the combined influence of the storm and the prevailing Northeasterly Windflow. Avoid sea travel as conditions are dangerous, with waves reaching up to 8 meters in some areas.
