The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has made a significant bust, arresting 37 Chinese nationals suspected of engaging in illegal retail activities within Parañaque, Manila. The operation, conducted on June 4, culminated in the apprehension of individuals involved in various businesses, including food retail, groceries, and restaurants, situated in the Multinational Village area.

Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr., head of the intelligence division, reported the successful operation to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco. The detained individuals comprised seven females and thirty males, all allegedly operating without proper authorization.

Commissioner Tansingco underscored the importance of acting swiftly on credible intelligence. "We received credible information about foreign nationals engaging in illegal retail activities, and our team acted swiftly to address these violations," Tansingco emphasized. He further stated that such actions are crucial to maintain the integrity of immigration laws and safeguard local businesses from unfair competition.

The arrested individuals are now detained in the BI's facility located within Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig, pending the resolution of deportation cases against them. Tansingco reiterated the BI's firm stance against illegal work practices, emphasizing that necessary actions will be taken against violators. "The Bureau of Immigration will not tolerate illegal work practices and will continue to take necessary actions against those who violate our laws," Tansingco reaffirmed.
