In a dramatic turn of events, the Regional Trial Court in the National Capital Region (NCR) has issued a warrant for the arrest of Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Go Baldo. This move comes in connection with the 2018 murder of former Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his police aide, Master Sergeant Orlando Diaz.

The court's resolution, dated February 28, 2024, directs authorities to apprehend Mayor Baldo at his known residence in Purok 8, Tagas, Daraga, Albay, or wherever he might be found. The arrest order specifies that Baldo faces charges of two counts of murder, under Article 248 of the Revised Penal Code, and the case is non-bailable. This means that if Baldo is to be released, it will require a significant financial bond or surety.

The court has emphasized the importance of transparency during the arrest process. Authorities are required to use at least two recording devices, including body-worn cameras, to document the execution of the warrant in accordance with Supreme Court regulations.

In related updates, the Supreme Court has denied Baldo's petition for a review on certiorari concerning earlier court decisions, affirming that there was no reversible error in the lower court’s rulings. The court has also noted administrative aspects of the case, including the petitioner's procedural missteps.

As the legal proceedings continue, the arrest of Mayor Baldo marks a significant development in a case that has captured widespread attention and concern.
