The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 205 has stepped in with a strong directive aimed at filmmaker Darryl Yap. The court has ordered the issuance of a Writ of Habeas Data, effectively putting a stop to all promotional activities for Yap’s controversial film, The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma. This includes teaser videos, promotional materials, and even the film's release.

The move comes after Marvie "Vic" Castelo Sotto filed a verified Petition for Writ of Habeas Data, expressing serious concerns over the film’s content and its implications. The court found the petition to be sufficient, prompting it to demand that Yap submit a verified return of the writ within five days of receiving the court's order.

A summary hearing has been scheduled for January 15, 2025, where both parties are expected to present their evidence. The court’s decisive action highlights the legal measures available to protect personal data and privacy, especially in cases where public figures feel their rights may be infringed upon by media portrayals.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the upcoming hearing, which will delve into the merits of the petition and possibly set a precedent for future cases involving privacy and the portrayal of historical events in film.
