Looks like there’s a Villar family switcheroo coming in Las Piñas. Senator Cynthia Villar made it official on Monday, October 7, 2024, when she filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Congresswoman of the lone district of Las Piñas City. The veteran lawmaker submitted her papers at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office, signaling her intent to take over a seat currently held by her daughter, House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar.

If Cynthia wins, she’ll be stepping into her daughter’s shoes as Camille shifts gears to pursue a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections.

Flanked by her biggest supporters—husband and business tycoon, former Senate President Manny Villar, and son, Senator Mark Villar—Cynthia’s candidacy was a family affair. The presence of the Villar clan at the Comelec office highlighted their deep-rooted connection to Las Piñas, a city that has been synonymous with the Villar name for decades.

With the Villars continuing to dominate the political landscape of the city, Cynthia’s candidacy is poised to maintain their influence and legacy in Las Piñas. Many are already curious to see how this latest move will shape up, especially with Camille setting her sights on a bigger stage in the Senate.
