Davao Occidental Shaken By Magnitude 5.2 Quake: What You Need To Know

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted parts of Mindanao this afternoon, November 19, 2024. The quake struck at 4:34 PM, with its epicenter located 53 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental. According to PHIVOLCS, the earthquake was tectonic in origin, originating 53 kilometers below the surface.

Here’s a quick rundown of the intensities felt in different areas:

Intensity III: Don Marcelino (Davao Occidental), Malungon, and Alabel (Sarangani)

Intensity II: Jose Abad Santos (Davao Occidental), General Santos City, and Tupi (South Cotabato)

Intensity I: Magsaysay (Davao del Sur)

Instrumental readings showed similar results, with Don Marcelino and Alabel experiencing the strongest effects.

The good news? No damage has been reported so far, but aftershocks are expected. If you’re in these areas, it’s a good idea to stay alert and make sure your emergency kit is ready.
