Davao City just scored a major win for Philippine agriculture. Maylong Enterprises Corp. has made history as the first-ever Philippine company to get the green light from China’s General Administration of Customs to export frozen durian meat and paste. This milestone is a game-changer for local durian farmers, proving that the "King of Fruits" from the Philippines is ready to conquer international markets.

On February 11, 2025, Maylong sent off its first batch of exports—1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat and 300 boxes of durian paste—worth a whopping P8.2 million. Their destination? Nansha District in Guangzhou, China. The shipment is expected to arrive on February 18, marking a proud moment not just for Maylong but for the entire Philippine agricultural sector.

This success wasn’t achieved overnight. It took teamwork from key government agencies, including the Department of Agriculture-Region XI (DA-RFO XI) and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) – Plant Quarantine Service Port of Davao, to ensure Maylong met China’s strict import regulations. Their combined efforts paved the way for this groundbreaking export, setting a new standard for the industry.

Macario Gonzaga, DA-RFO XI Regional Executive Director, couldn’t hide his excitement. “From the fertile soils of Davao Region to China’s bustling markets, our frozen durian represents the hopes and dreams of countless farmers. This achievement showcases what we can accomplish through shared vision and purpose,” he shared.

Maylong’s Chief Operating Officer, May Li, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering local durian growers. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between local farmers and the global stage, ensuring that Philippine durian earns the recognition it truly deserves,” she said.

Industry leaders echoed the importance of maintaining high production standards. Emmanuel Belviz, President of the Durian Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC), stressed that quality is the key to keeping the world’s trust in Philippine durian.
Meanwhile, Larry Miculob, President of the Durian Exporters Association of the Philippines (DEAP), highlighted durian’s role in sustainable agriculture, cultural heritage, and national pride.

Flor de Hasmin C. Bayo, Officer-in-Charge Regional Manager of the Plant Quarantine Service Port of Davao, praised both Maylong and local farmers for their dedication to meeting China’s strict requirements. “This achievement would not have been possible without their unwavering commitment to excellence and compliance,” she noted.

This historic shipment isn’t just a business deal—it’s a bold step forward for Philippine durian in the global arena. With Maylong leading the way, the doors are now open for more local producers to tap into international markets, solidifying the Philippines’ status as a world-class durian powerhouse. And who knows? Maybe one day, Philippine durian will be the top choice for durian lovers worldwide.
