Day 2 of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) filing was buzzing with political heavyweights, fresh faces, and even a few unexpected contenders making their intentions known for the 2025 elections.

First up, Senator Imee Marcos made her reelection bid official by submitting her COC at the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Her move was expected but still made headlines, as she seeks to continue her legislative work for another term.

Over at the Comelec-NCR office in San Juan City, former Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta wasn’t wasting any time. She became the first to file for the congressional seat in Malabon’s lone district, signaling her determination to make a comeback and represent her hometown once again.

In the provincial scene, Eastern Samar Governor Ben P. Evardone is looking to extend his stay in office with a third consecutive term. The governor, who’s no stranger to politics, also filed his COC on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Eastern Samar Vice Governor Maria Caridad S. Goteesan, who is also aiming for reelection. With their combined political experience, the duo is gearing up for another round of leadership in the region.

And then there’s the surprise entry of alleged drug lord Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa, who filed his COC for mayor of Albuera, Leyte on Monday. His candidacy is sure to raise eyebrows and spark conversations, given his controversial background.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Basketball legend Danny Ildefonso joined the fray by filing his COC for councilor in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. The former PBA star is running under the ticket of Maan Tuazon-Guico, wife of Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III.

At the Manila Hotel Tent City, three familiar faces—Senator Lito Lapid, former Senate President Tito Sotto, and former Senator Ping Lacson—showed up to file their COCs. All three are part of the Marcos administration’s senatorial lineup for 2025, a sign that the campaign trail is heating up fast.

Not to be left out, broadcaster Doland Castro made his move too. He filed his COC for councilor in Quezon City’s first district. With his on-screen charisma and dedication, it will be interesting to see how he transitions from media to politics.

As the filing period continues, we’re sure to see more names popping up and more stories unfolding.
