Former acting Cabinet secretary Atty. Melvin Matibag has filed a disbarment complaint against Atty. Harry Roque. This complaint, submitted to the Supreme Court, centers around Roque’s alleged misleading posts on social media, raising important questions about accountability among legal professionals.

Atty. Matibag, in his statement, emphasized the weighty responsibilities that come with being a lawyer. "First and foremost, we filed this disbarment case as officers of the court. You know, as lawyers, we are granted the privilege to practice law, but with that privilege comes a set of responsibilities," he noted. He referenced the Code of Professional Responsibility, which lays down ethical guidelines for legal practitioners, and pointed out that the Supreme Court has recently updated these rules regarding social media conduct.

Matibag stressed the importance of this issue for the legal profession, stating, "This complaint aims to encourage the judiciary to broaden its jurisprudence. We want to ensure that lawyers, including Atty. Harry Roque, are guided by these principles."
