The Department of Health (DOH) has reported the first recorded death in the Philippines linked to the use of vape products. DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo announced the case during the observance of "World No Tobacco Day."

The victim, a Filipino, succumbed to complications believed to be caused by vaping, marking a significant and alarming milestone in the country's public health landscape. This case underscores the potential dangers associated with vaping, a trend that has seen a rise in popularity, especially among younger demographics.

Assistant Secretary Domingo emphasized the importance of this announcement, stating, "This first recorded death due to vaping highlights the urgent need for increased public awareness and stricter regulations on the use of electronic cigarettes and other vaping devices."

The announcement during "World No Tobacco Day" adds a poignant context to the ongoing efforts to combat the harms of tobacco and nicotine products. This annual campaign, led by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to raise awareness about the deadly effects of tobacco use and to promote effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

Health authorities are urging the public to be cautious and to consider the potential health risks associated with vaping. The DOH is also calling for more comprehensive research into the long-term effects of e-cigarettes and for the implementation of stronger regulatory measures to protect public health.
