The Department of Justice (DOJ) is leaving no stone unturned in its investigation of the escape of former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, a situation that has raised serious concerns about the security of the Philippines' borders. DOJ Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano shared updates on the case, emphasizing the importance of sticking to the facts amid all the noise surrounding the issue.

In a recent interview, Clavano was cautious but clear. While he acknowledged the public's curiosity about whose heads might roll as a result of this debacle, he refrained from naming names, saying, "I am simply just not privy to that information as of yet."

But make no mistake—the DOJ is taking this matter seriously. Clavano confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway, reflecting the sentiments of various lawmakers who have been vocal about tightening border security. The goal is clear: to understand how Guo managed to slip through the cracks and prevent such incidents from happening again.

Clavano also pointed out that corruption is a key issue in these backdoor escapes, something the DOJ is determined to tackle. While details of the ongoing investigation remain under wraps, he hinted that the President might already have been briefed on the matter, given the urgency of the situation.

As for the specifics of Guo's escape, things are murky. Initial reports suggested she took a Batik Air flight from the Philippines to Malaysia, then traveled from Malaysia to Singapore, and eventually to Indonesia. But the story doesn't quite add up. According to Clavano, recent intelligence and testimony have revealed a different route. Guo allegedly took a boat from Zambales to Sabah, Malaysia, and then traveled to Kuala Lumpur, from where she moved on to Singapore and finally Batam Island in Indonesia.

And here's where it gets even more puzzling: The flight information tied to Guo seems off. Clavano mentioned that while a Batik Air flight was part of the records, it didn’t match up with the expected travel route. Even odder, a photo supposedly capturing her entry into another country was missing her image—just the background was visible. This anomaly has added another layer of complexity to the investigation.

Despite these discrepancies, Clavano assured that the DOJ is on top of things. Guo was last traced to Batam Island, where her associates were apprehended by Indonesian authorities. However, Guo herself managed to escape yet again.

The DOJ’s investigation is ongoing, and while Clavano couldn't provide all the answers just yet, he promised that the truth will eventually come to light. For now, all eyes are on the DOJ as they work to untangle the mystery of Alice Guo's daring escape.
