Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla directed Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado to expedite the return of former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Royina Garma, who was detained in San Francisco, California on November 7.

Remulla emphasized the importance of Garma’s cooperation with ongoing Philippine investigations, following recent Congressional hearings where she reportedly made significant allegations regarding past government actions. During one of these hearings, Garma implicated former President Rodrigo Duterte, suggesting that his administration endorsed extrajudicial measures in its war on drugs, including a reward system for police officers involved in operations.

“We are committed to seeing justice served in every case and to upholding the integrity of our justice system, especially when it involves our country’s significant issues and concerns,” Remulla stated, reiterating the DOJ’s intent to ensure a safe and swift process for Garma’s return to the Philippines. "While we work to ensure the safe return of Ms. Garma, we trust that she will remain cooperative with all ongoing investigations."

This directive underscores the DOJ’s priority to address recent legal concerns and potential revelations from Garma, whose testimony has caught public attention as the country awaits further developments.
