DOST-PAGASA Declares End Of El Nino, Shifts Focus To Potential La Nina Development
FILE
The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) has officially announced the conclusion of the El Niño weather phenomenon, marking a return to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO)-neutral conditions in the tropical Pacific.

However, the agency warns of a probable transition to La Niña, with a 69% chance by the July-August-September 2024 season.

In light of these developments, DOST-PAGASA has issued its final advisory for El Niño (2023-2024) and lowered the PAGASA ENSO Alert and Warning System to INACTIVE (ENSO-neutral), while maintaining a La Niña WATCH.

Despite the shift to ENSO-neutral conditions and the prevailing Southwest monsoon, residual effects of El Niño, such as elevated surface temperatures and reduced rainfall, may persist in certain areas of the Philippines.
