A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan’s east coast Friday morning according to the United States Geological Survey.

The USGS reported that the tremor hit at 7:35 am (2335 GMT) at a depth of 15 kilometers near Hualien, the epicenter of a major earthquake in April.

The Taiwanese government said there are no reports of major damage and that the island’s high-speed trains, rail and metro systems were all operating normally.

The Ministry of the Interior, however, advised the public to remain vigilant.

Taiwan is located between two tectonic plates and experiences frequent earthquakes.

In early April, it was hit by a 7.4-magnitude tremor, considered the strongest in 25 years.

It triggered landslides and caused severe damage to buildings around Hualien.

17 people died.

In 1999, Taiwan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that killed about 2,400 people.

It was the deadliest natural disaster in its history.
