Personnel from the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), specifically the 25th Infantry Battalion (25IB) under the 1001st Infantry Brigade, 10th Infantry Division (10ID), carried out Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR) operations in Brgy. Masara on Wednesday (February 7).

The mission aimed to address the aftermath of a massive landslide that occurred on the night of February 6, devastating the community due to consistent heavy rainfall caused by the shear line and the trough of Low-Pressure Area (LPA) affecting the Davao region.

The SRR operations were conducted in coordination with enlisted reservists and organic personnel from the 1103rd Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (1103RRIBn) and the 1103rd Community Defense Center (1103CDC) of the 11th Regional Community Defense Group (11RCDG).

The collaborative efforts also involved the active participation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) of Maco, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Philippine Red Cross - Davao de Oro Chapter, and various volunteer groups from the Davao Region.

As a result of the collective efforts, seven bodies were successfully retrieved, while 31 individuals sustained injuries. An estimated 48 individuals remain missing, adding urgency to the ongoing search and rescue operations.

The landslide, triggered by the persistent heavy rainfall, wreaked havoc on Brgy. Masara, underscoring the importance of coordinated disaster response efforts to mitigate the impact on affected communities. The Eastern Mindanao Command and its allied units remain committed to providing support and assistance in the ongoing operations, working hand in hand with various agencies and volunteer groups to address the aftermath of this tragic incident.
