Senate President Francis Escudero is making sure everything runs smoothly once the Senate officially convenes as an Impeachment Court for the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. To prepare for the historic proceedings, Escudero signed Special Order No. 2025-015, effectively organizing an administrative support group to assist with the trial.

Why This Matters

The impeachment process is a complex legal and procedural undertaking, and Escudero wants to ensure that the Senate is ready to handle it efficiently. The newly formed support group will provide legal, technical, and administrative assistance to keep everything in order.

“This Special Order is vital to ensure that the Senate, in its role as an Impeachment Court, operates smoothly and efficiently. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of justice and due process throughout the proceedings,” Escudero said.

Who's in Charge?

Under the order, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. is designated as the Clerk of the Senate Impeachment Court. This means he’ll oversee the administrative side of the proceedings, ensuring all necessary documents, subpoenas, and legal instruments are properly handled.

Additionally, several key Senate offices will play crucial roles:

Office of the Senate Legal Counsel – Will draft subpoenas, orders, and legal documents, as well as assist in marking and securing evidence.

Office of the Deputy Secretary for Legislation – Will be responsible for keeping records, drafting resolutions, and managing impeachment trial transcripts.

Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms – Will ensure security and order during the proceedings and serve legal documents as needed.

A Senate Ready for Trial

The support group will remain in place until the impeachment trial is concluded. With preparations now in full swing, the Senate is setting the stage for what could be one of the most significant political trials in recent Philippine history.

What do you think about this move? Will it help ensure a fair and organized trial? Let’s talk in the comments.
