SolGen Menardo Guevarra recently addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo. According to Guevarra, Guo is still eligible to file her certificate of candidacy (COC) for any position she wishes to run for, despite the unresolved cases against her.

Guevarra clarified that the petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) to cancel Guo’s birth certificate is still pending at the trial court. This means no final decision has been made, and Guo retains her right to participate in the upcoming elections.

“The COMELEC is duty-bound to accept Guo’s COC unless a valid reason for disqualification emerges,” Guevarra explained. “At this time, Alice Guo may still file a certificate of candidacy for any elective position… Ultimately, it is the electorate who will decide if Alice Guo deserves to hold public office.”

In short, it’s still anyone’s game for Alice Guo. Until a final verdict is issued, she’s free to pursue her political ambitions.
