A united front of progressive organizations, led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) and Koalisyong Makabayan, convened a press conference today to detail their "People's Impeachment Complaint" against Vice President Sara Duterte. The complaint centers on the controversial use of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds, which critics say could have been allocated to urgent educational needs.

Ruby Bernardo, president of the ACT NCR Union, did not hold back in her statement. “This ₱612.5 million could have funded hundreds of classrooms and provided much-needed learning materials. Instead, it was squandered while the education sector grapples with a crisis,” Bernardo emphasized.

This afternoon, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed the receipt of the second impeachment complaint against VP Duterte, officially filed by representatives France Castro, Arlene Brosas, and Raoul Danniel Manuel. Velasco assured the public that the complaint will follow the House's impeachment rules as outlined in the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

“The filing of these complaints shows the gravity of the allegations and underscores Congress’s role in promoting transparency and accountability,” Velasco said. He pledged that the process would adhere strictly to due process and constitutional principles, adding that the House is committed to impartiality and integrity.

The groups behind the impeachment call for the reallocation of public funds toward meaningful programs rather than discretionary spending, signaling that the debate is far from over. As the process unfolds, all eyes will be on Congress to ensure a fair and transparent handling of the case.
