Growing Support For Marcos: More Filipinos Now Identify As Pro-Marcos, OCTA Survey Shows

In a recent survey conducted by OCTA Research, a noticeable shift in political affiliations among adult Filipinos has emerged. According to the Tugon ng Masa (TNM) nationwide survey, held from August 28 to September 2, 2024, more Filipinos are now identifying as "Pro-Marcos" compared to earlier this year. This rise in support for the Marcos administration has sparked conversations about changing political preferences in the country.

The survey results show that the percentage of adult Filipinos who identify as Pro-Marcos has significantly increased. This suggests that many are becoming more aligned with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s policies and leadership style. The president's administration has focused on key areas such as infrastructure development, agriculture, and digital transformation, which may be resonating with a broader segment of the population.

On the flip side, support for former president Rodrigo Duterte seems to be on the decline. Fewer Filipinos are now identifying as Pro-Duterte, continuing a trend seen over the past few months. This shift could reflect a variety of factors, from the natural ebb and flow of political support to the evolving political landscape as Marcos continues to solidify his position.

Interestingly, a sizable portion of Filipinos, around 26%, now consider themselves "independent." This means they don't necessarily align themselves with any particular political figure or administration. This growing independent mindset could be a sign of people wanting to remain open-minded or undecided in the face of various political developments.

The OCTA survey highlights how political affiliations in the Philippines are dynamic and subject to change. As the country faces economic challenges and social issues, the way people view their leaders and the policies they support can shift quickly.

Ultimately, these changes in political identification offer a snapshot of the evolving mood of the Filipino electorate, setting the stage for future discussions on governance and leadership.
