As of 5:00 PM today, PAGASA released its latest update on Tropical Storm Marce (Yinxing), which is currently picking up strength over the Philippine Sea and is expected to bring rains and potentially severe winds to Northern Luzon over the coming days.

Here’s what we know so far:

Current Position and Strength

As of 4:00 PM today, Marce is about 740 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, and it's moving west-northwest at a brisk 30 km/h. Winds near the center are whipping at a sustained 85 km/h, with gusts up to 105 km/h. This storm’s strength is likely to keep climbing, possibly reaching the severe tropical storm category by tomorrow morning and even typhoon status by tomorrow evening or early Wednesday morning.

Expected Path and Potential Landfall

Forecasts predict Marce will continue moving northwest, edging closer to the Philippine landmass. The current track suggests a possible landfall in the Babuyan Islands or Northern Cagayan between Thursday evening and early Friday morning. However, changes in the storm's path are still possible due to nearby high-pressure areas, meaning Cagayan-Isabela should stay alert for any shift.

Rain and Wind Alerts

Though no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is up yet, Signal No. 1 may be issued as early as tonight in Cagayan if the storm nears. Marce’s presence will likely bring heavy rains and gusty winds to Northern Luzon and the eastern parts of Luzon, starting today or tomorrow. Communities in Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, and Northern Quezon should brace for strong winds today, and additional areas may be affected by tomorrow.

Coastal Cautions

Rough sea conditions (waves up to 3.5 meters high) are expected along Batanes' coastline, while nearby areas like the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and parts of Cagayan will see waves of around 3.0 meters. Mariners and small craft operators are advised to avoid these areas due to potentially hazardous waves and strong winds.

What’s Next?

Marce is intensifying and will likely continue to strengthen over the next 24 hours, so all affected regions should monitor updates closely. For those in areas at risk, now’s the time to prepare. Follow instructions from local officials, especially if you’re in high-risk areas.
