In a Senate Committee Hearing, Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed deep concern over Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), citing potential ties to surveillance operations and government website hacking. The discussion stemmed from revelations during the investigation of a raided POGO in Bamban, Tarlac, where extensive scam activities were uncovered.

During her opening statement, Senator Hontiveros highlighted intelligence community reports suggesting that the Bamban complex might be utilized for surveillance purposes, with some high-profile hacking incidents tracing back to the same location. This revelation underscores the gravity of the situation and its implications for national security.

Senator Hontiveros reiterated her call to ban POGOs, citing previous instances of Chinese fugitives being found within POGO facilities. She emphasized the continuous criminal activities associated with POGOs and questioned the government's stance on allowing their operation despite mounting concerns.

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) further supported Senator Hontiveros' concerns, noting that many cyberfraud investigations worldwide have connections to the Philippines. This acknowledgment underscores the country's growing prominence as a hub for cybercrime, posing significant threats to national security.

Senator Hontiveros concluded by labeling POGOs as centers for scams, fugitives, and various crimes, including human trafficking. She urged the government to prioritize combating these threats by initiating a ban on POGOs, emphasizing the urgent need to safeguard national security against escalating risks.
