Hyundai Engineering and Construction is pushing full throttle on the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project, and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) couldn’t be more impressed. During a recent inspection in Laguna, DOTr Undersecretary for Railways, Jeremy Regino, praised Hyundai's rapid progress and high-tech approach, noting that Hyundai is leading the pack among NSCR contractors.

Hyundai has integrated advanced tools that keep the project on track—literally! With CCTV monitoring, drone footage, live streaming, and real-time data analysis, Hyundai’s team is equipped to monitor every aspect of the project down to the last detail. This suite of digital tools allows both Hyundai and DOTr to see instant updates on progress, track manpower deployment, and address any potential hiccups in real time. In fact, officials can now check on the project’s progress right from their mobile phones.

"Hyundai’s tech-driven monitoring system is a game-changer," Regino said. "This approach saves time, reduces costs, and helps keep everything moving smoothly. Having such close oversight of manpower and project milestones makes a real difference."

Project Director Jeong Hyung Tae briefed Regino on Hyundai’s progress, highlighting how the company’s digital toolkit has set new standards in project management. Jeong’s leadership and Hyundai’s tech-forward strategy are powering the construction of nine elevated stations across a 32-kilometer stretch from Alabang to Calamba, including stops in Muntinlupa, San Pedro, Sta. Rosa, and Calamba.

Awarded a PHP 74 billion contract in 2022, Hyundai’s joint venture with Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company has shown that an infrastructure project doesn’t just need skilled labor—it also thrives on advanced technology and innovative management.

The NSCR is set to span 147 kilometers from Calamba, Laguna, to New Clark City in Tarlac, aiming to slash travel time by half and invigorate regional economic growth. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), this ambitious project is on track to transform Philippine transportation.

With Hyundai’s technology-led approach blazing a trail, the NSCR project is closer than ever to bringing fast, reliable rail transit to Filipinos, demonstrating how private-sector innovation can propel public infrastructure forward.
