Ishikawa Experiences Continued Seismic Activity

In the aftermath of Monday's (January 01,2024) powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck Ishikawa Prefecture along the Sea of Japan, the region continues to experience heightened seismic activity, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The main shock, occurring at 4:10 p.m. on Monday, recorded an intensity of 7 on Japan's seismic scale, indicating a major event with significant potential for damage.

As of Tuesday morning, the agency has reported a continuous series of aftershocks, with a total of 129 tremors registering intensities of 2 or higher.

In addition to the initial intensity 7 tremor, three aftershocks with upper 5 intensities, five with lower 5 intensities, and 19 with intensities of 4 have been documented.

The collective impact of these aftershocks has contributed to a total of 87 observed tremors on Monday, with an additional 42 recorded by 6 a.m. on Tuesday (January 2,2024 ).
