J.Lo And Ben Affleck's Surprise Split: Jennifer Files For Divorce On A Meaningful Anniversary - Without A Prenup

It looks like the fairy tale has officially come to an end for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. In a move that feels both surprising and inevitable, J.Lo has filed for divorce from Ben, and she did it in a way that’s raising eyebrows across Hollywood. But, like everything with Bennifer, there are layers to this story that make it all the more intriguing.

Jennifer filed the paperwork on Tuesday in L.A. County Superior Court, but here’s where it gets interesting—she didn’t use a lawyer. That’s right, J.Lo filed pro per, meaning she’s handling this herself. The documents reveal that the couple separated on April 26, 2024, just shy of their second wedding anniversary.

Now, here’s the kicker—Jennifer chose to file on August 20th, the exact date they celebrated their lavish second wedding ceremony in Georgia two years ago. Coincidence? Not likely. It seems J.Lo wanted to send a message by choosing this significant date.

But the real shocker? There’s no mention of a prenup in the divorce documents, and sources close to the couple say that’s because there isn’t one. You read that right—despite being seasoned veterans in the world of marriage (this is J.Lo’s fourth and Ben’s second), they opted not to protect their assets with a prenuptial agreement.

This means that everything they earned during their nearly two years of marriage could be up for grabs as community property. And we’re talking about some big-ticket projects here. Ben has been busy starring in movies like "Air" and "Hypnotic," and producing films like "The Instigators." He also just wrapped up filming "The Accountant 2." Meanwhile, J.Lo has been just as active, with projects like "Shotgun Wedding," "The Mother," and her album "This Is Me ... Now."

Given their busy and successful careers, the lack of a prenup is truly surprising. But it seems that both Ben and Jen believed this marriage was going to last forever—or at least long enough that a prenup wasn’t necessary. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

In the divorce docs, Jennifer has waived any spousal support and is asking the judge to deny Ben any support as well. With no children together, they won’t have to deal with custody battles, but the financial details are still up in the air.

The couple has been trying to work out a financial settlement for months, but according to sources, those discussions have become increasingly tense. At times, they’ve reportedly not even been on speaking terms. So, why did Jennifer decide to file now, in the middle of these negotiations? Well, in a no-fault state like California, it doesn’t really matter who files first, but there can be PR implications. Perhaps J.Lo wanted to take control of the narrative—or maybe it was just time to move on.

Either way, this split is sure to be one for the Hollywood history books. We’ll be keeping an eye on how this all plays out, but one thing is for sure—Bennifer 2.0 is officially over.
