It’s that time of year again when we need to stay alert about typhoons, and right now, all eyes are on Typhoon Marce, known internationally as Yinxing. Here’s the latest scoop straight from the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin issued at 5:00 PM today.

Current Situation: As of 4:00 PM, Typhoon Marce was located about 480 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela. It’s packing a punch with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h and gusts reaching up to 160 km/h. The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 25 km/h, which means it’s progressing fairly quickly.

What to Expect: Typhoon Marce is expected to bring strong to typhoon-force winds extending up to 360 kilometers from its center. So, if you’re in the Luzon area—especially in places like Batanes, Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte—you should be prepared for some gusty conditions. Right now, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect, indicating that strong winds of 39 to 61 km/h could pose minimal to minor threats to life and property.

Rain and More Rain: As for rainfall, we’re keeping an eye on heavy rainfall advisories. So if you’re in regions prone to flooding or landslides, it’s crucial to stay updated with local warnings. Remember, the winds might be stronger in coastal and mountainous areas.

Marine Warnings: For those planning to head out to sea, take note: a Gale Warning has been issued for the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon. Expect very rough seas, particularly around Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, with wave heights potentially reaching 7 meters! If you’re on the water or have plans to go, it’s best to stay in port or find a safe harbor.

Looking Ahead: Forecasts suggest that Marce will continue to move west-northwest today and tomorrow before slowing down and turning westward. The storm could make landfall near the Babuyan Islands or northern Cagayan by Thursday. So, it’s essential to keep an eye on updates as we approach that time.

In light of this storm, local officials and disaster management offices are urging everyone to take precautions to protect lives and property. If you’re in a vulnerable area, heed evacuation orders and stay tuned to your local PAGASA updates.
