KOJC Legal Team Takes Action: Files Motion Against PNP's Continued Presence At Compound Despite Court Order

On the morning of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the legal team of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) filed a Manifestation with a Motion to Issue a Show Cause Order at the Regional Trial Court in Davao City. This action comes in response to the continued presence of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel at their compound, despite a Temporary Protective Order (TPO) issued by the court just the day before.

The TPO, granted on Tuesday, August 27, was meant to safeguard the KOJC compound from any further interference. However, the legal team claims that the PNP's presence has persisted, prompting them to seek the court's intervention once again.

In their filing, KOJC's legal representatives asked the court to hold the respondents, presumably the PNP, in contempt for allegedly disregarding the TPO. This move highlights the ongoing tension between KOJC and law enforcement, with the legal team making it clear that they expect the court's orders to be respected.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the Regional Trial Court in Davao City to see how the case progresses and whether the PNP will respond to the legal challenge. For KOJC, this is a crucial step in defending their rights and ensuring that court orders are enforced.

The Department of Justice, however pointed out that the TPO is already moot and academic.,

“Police operatives allowed free ingress and egress to the compound, hence, the barriers or barricades surrounding the area did not prevent the flow of basic human needs for KOJC members but merely places added security to help law enforcers in advancing their purpose,” the DOJ said.

The DOJ also stressed that the police operations are within the bounds of the law and by virtue of a legal order from a co-equal court.
