Kris Aquino Makes Surprise Public Appearance At People Asia's 'people Of The Year' - Here's What Went Down

After what felt like forever, Kris Aquino finally stepped back into the public eye. The "Queen of All Media" made a rare appearance on Tuesday at People Asia’s People of the Year 2025 event, showing up in support of her dear friend and designer, Michael Leyva, who was among the night’s honorees. And of course, she didn’t come alone—her son Bimby was right by her side.

A Long-Awaited Comeback

It’s been years since Kris last attended a public event, and she admitted that even making it there was a bit of a challenge. Arriving later than expected, she apologized to the media, explaining, “I’m sorry we’re late, they had trouble waking me up ‘cause we started new medicine last night.”

Despite her weakened health, Kris made it a point to celebrate Michael’s achievement. And when he asked her to remove her mask for photos, she politely declined. “Hindi nga ako pwede magtanggal ng mask, papagalitan ako ng doctor ko,” she said, proving she’s taking her doctor’s advice seriously.

Why Michael Leyva is Special to Her

Kris didn’t just come to make an appearance—she came to celebrate someone who has stood by her through thick and thin. Speaking about Michael, she got sentimental:

"He is more than just a friend. He is like the younger brother I never had. There are people who would say 'I’ll be there for you' or 'Maaasahan mo ako' but Michael has proven so many times, and in so many ways."

And in true Kris fashion, she even shared a funny moment about almost missing the event entirely! “I actually thought today was the 24th and tomorrow is the 25th. He (Michael) was the one who told me na tomorrow is the 25th. Ay perfect, what a perfect (day) to come out.”

A Fitting Date for a Public Comeback

February 25 holds deep meaning for Kris—it’s not just any date, but the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, a historical moment closely tied to her family’s legacy. While it was a significant day to step back into the limelight, Kris kept things real when asked how she was doing:

"Not so okay."

Her health journey is far from over, but seeing her out and about, even just for a night, gave fans a glimmer of hope. Here's to wishing Kris more strength and brighter days ahead.
