Get ready, Metro Manila! The long-awaited LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 is finally set to start operations this November 2024. After years of anticipation and hard work, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), along with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), confirmed the big news during a press briefing at the New Executive Building in Malacañang.

This new addition to the LRT-1 line is more than just an extension; it’s a breath of fresh air for commuters dealing with Metro Manila’s notorious traffic jams. Once operational, this extension promises to cut travel time between Quezon City and Parañaque to under an hour. Plus, it’s estimated to welcome an extra 80,000 daily passengers in its first year alone—a welcome relief for the 323,000 people currently relying on the LRT-1 each day.

“We’re thrilled to announce that LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 will be up and running this month,” shared Enrico R. Benipayo, President and CEO of LRMC. “This project represents more than just reduced travel time; it’s about improving quality of life, boosting the economy, and showing our commitment to a world-class transportation system.”

LRMC has been busy behind the scenes with final touches like system integration, train commissioning, and operational readiness tests to make sure everything’s running smoothly. New stations—Redemptorist (Aseana), MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat)—are all designed to make commuting easier for everyone, with accessible features like elevators, escalators, and tactile guides.

For now, stay tuned to LRMC’s official channels for updates on the exact opening date and other details. With this game-changing extension about to launch, getting around Metro Manila is about to become a whole lot easier for southbound commuters.
